Even though we have been VERY busy we haven’t posted anything in a while so we’d like to show everyone a newborn video we have been working on. We are so happy for the proud parents Catalina and Frankie on the addition to their family.
For those of you that do not already know, Steven and I are parents to 4 rambunctious boys ages 4 and under. Most days we simply play referee for all of the fights and wrestling matches that can occur at any moment. There really is never a dull moment at our house!
Often times when we tell people that we do photography for a living their first response is, “Oh! You must have so many great photos of your kids!” and I like to laugh at them and tell them that they could not be further from the truth! 🙂 I mean, that is the logical conclusion one would come to but it has proved to be a lot harder than it seems. I would have to say that the most challenging photo shoots that we have ever had are with our own kids! So much so that it has been a YEAR since we’ve attempted to take photos of them. We haven’t taken photos of our youngest, who is almost ONE, since he was a newborn ( I know, I know…we are winning at this parenting thing!). Part of the reason we have been unsuccessful in the past is because I tend to put unrealistic expectations on myself and my kids. I mean, we’re professionals…we should be able to do this…and it better look perfect, dangit! I had to come to the realization that I cannot let those things hold me back when it comes to photos of my kids. These years and moments are things that I will never get back and I want to document our children, however rowdy they are, so that I can look back and remember them at this exact stage. It doesn’t have to be perfect…and dare I say that the “imperfect” photos are the ones that we will look back on and cherish the most. These are the ones that we will pull out for years to come to embarrass our kids, or to reminisce over, and laugh about. These are the moments where life happens!
So we decided that we could not put it off any longer… We armed ourselves with Grandma and treat bags and headed to a small nearby park. I have to admit that it did not go as terrible as I thought that it might! WIN! Was it perfect? No! Were there moments where I felt like it wasn’t worth it? Yes! But in the end I have these precious photos that I can cherish for the rest of my life and to me that is priceless!
My encouragement for all of the parents reading this is to invest the time and energy that it takes to have photos of your kids taken and to embrace the craziness and “imperfect” moments that it will inevitably produce! It will always and forever be worth it! I wouldn’t trade these photos or the people in them for anything!
This is our circus, and these are our monkeys! 🙂
Yesterday was one of those days that I feel like I’m going to look back on over the course of my life and get a warm and fuzzy feeling about. Steven and I with our 4 boys in tow, along with my parents, traveled down to Cape Girardeau to spend the day with my grandparents before we met Brooke and David for their engagement session. It was a beautiful fall day and we spent our afternoon
doing some of my favorite childhood pastimes in my grandparents backyard. There was something so special about watching my boys play wiffle ball (with the same bats and balls as I did!) and jump in a pile of leaves just like I did when I was visiting my grandparents as a child. These are the kinds of moments that I will cherish forever! I’m so glad that Brooke and David chose Cape to do their engagement photos so that we had an excuse to make this little trip. And to top off an already great day we had a blast with Brooke and David during their session! They are such an adorable couple and we are so glad that we are getting to photograph their 2016 wedding. I wanted to share a few of my favorites from their session. I hope they put a smile on your face like they did mine!
We are finally wrapping up the craziness that was wedding season this year. It has been such a great year and we are so grateful for every single couple that has allowed us to capture their most precious memories. It is an honor and a privilege that we do not take for granted. With that being said, we are already looking forward to our 2016 wedding season with all of our new and amazing couples! We kicked off the beginning of our 2016 engagement season with KC and Chris’ engagement session. We are planning on hitting a local park for KC and Chris’ wedding day so they wanted to do something a little different for their engagement session which I love! We spent the evening on the beautiful campus of Washington University and then headed to the University City Loop to finish up on the rooftop of the Moonrise Hotel. The lighting was gorgeous and the company was even better…not a shabby way to end a crazy weekend! I hope you enjoy this peek at their session!
It has been a few weeks since our last blog post and we’ve been busy, busy bees since then! Unfortunately, the blog has been a little neglected but we do have a lot of great new weddings posted on our Facebook page if you would like to check them out! We also posted a wedding video that Steven shot a couple of weeks ago that you can check out. We have a lot a great things planned for the upcoming year and we are so excited to get to work with even more amazing couples for the 2016 wedding season.
This past weekend Linda and Louis tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at The Vineyard at Riverbend Chapel in Washington, MO. These two are not only adorable but they are so much fun to be around! Their wedding day was filled with laughter, joy, and a lot of good dancing! I mean, seriously, GOOD dancing! Louis even busted out the worm at one point! It was a blast to watch the two of them, along with their friends, enjoy cutting loose and having a good time! I know I’ve said it a thousand times before but we absolutely love what we do! It brings me so much joy to know that I was able to capture these memories for our couples to cherish for a lifetime and pass down for generations to come! We feel absolutely blessed and honored to do what we do.
I hope you all enjoy this preview of Linda and Louis’ beautiful wedding!
I have to admit that leading up to this September I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of the upcoming weddings we had. In September alone, between Steven and I, we are shooting a total of 8 weddings! That is the most weddings we have ever had in one month! Leading up to it I was feeling intimidated by that number and wondering how we would ever survive the double and triple wedding weekends. Now here I am halfway through the craziness and I can honestly say that this month has been awesome! We have gotten to work with some of the best couples and have had the privilege of photographing some beautiful weddings. I seriously cannot say enough good things about our clients! We feel so honored to work with all of them and to be there for one of the biggest moments in their lives. When we say that we love our job you can rest assured that we really mean it!
This past weekend while Steven was photographing the beautiful wedding of Lindsey and Ryan, I had the privilege of photographing Cassie and Logan’s big day. I have LOVED photographing this couple both at their engagement session and on their wedding day. Not only are they one of the sweetest couples I’ve had the pleasure to work with but they are so stinkin’ adorable! They were genuinely so excited to get married and start their new life together and it really came through in their photos. I am so excited to share this preview with you of their beautiful wedding! My hope is that you feel the love and the joy that they did on their wedding day.
Congratulations Cassie and Logan!
There are so many words to describe a wedding day but I am going to sum up Lindsey and Ryan’s in a few words that I feel really explain their day. Their day can be described with fun, love, and organization. Let’s start with fun. Lindsey, Ryan, and their entire bridal party are simply just fun to be around. From the surprisingly good dance moves to the great senses of humor their day was full of laughter, jokes, a few happy and nervous tears, and of course FUN! Now we talk about love. I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t every wedding full of love?” The answer to that is maybe. Sometimes it can be a little hard to see the love on a wedding day with all the hustle and bustle and stress of the day. With Lindsey and Ryan there was no question. From their adorkable nervous laughs during the ceremony to the sweet little moments that most people besides me as the photographer get to see there is no question that these two adore each other. This brings us to our last word, organization. This might seem like a weird word to describe a wedding day especially with all the other beautiful words to describe a wedding, but trust me this word fits well. Lindsey has to be one of the most organized and detail oriented brides I’ve encountered (in a good way). Every detail you see in this post was made by Lindsey. We have SO many more photos of her details that we could include in this post so you aren’t even seeing half of it. She had a vision of what she wanted and she put in her blood, sweat, and tears to make it happen. Ok, maybe she didn’t bleed but there is a good possibility that she did. She had timelines, folders, and instructions for everyone to ensure that everyone knew what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. While a bride that is usually this detailed and organized can be a little rough to be around on her wedding day Lindsey did exactly what she should have done, relax and enjoy. She was able to let go of any little things that didn’t work out perfectly and simply enjoy her wedding day.
Needless to say I had an amazing time with this couple and their bridal party. Also one of my favorite things happened, I was able to take their photos at sunset (which is the best time to take them) which never happens on a wedding day!
Lindsey and Ryan I had a blast at your wedding and I could not be happier for the two of you! Enjoy your honeymoon and enjoy your photos!
